Most wargames score where you moved the pieces. WarPaths scores the analysis behind the move.
WarPaths' Solo/AI Game Experience (SAGE) turns national security crises into a single-player wargame. Evaluate the situation, debate with advisors, and lead a scenario to its conclusion — then see where your judgment lands against analysts worldwide.
See what you'd be playing.
Every game starts from a real crisis — cable cuts, a contested strait, a satellite collision — and plays out over several turns of decisions. Browse the catalog to see what's waiting.
How your judgment is scored
You analyze, you decide, you justify.
The case method, made interactive, for national security professionals.
A WarPaths game focuses on the reasoning behind your choices — what you perceived, your understanding of tradeoffs, and the appropriateness of your final decisions.
A What gets assessedOne turn at a time
Strategic question
Each turn opens with a hard decision the situation forces on you.
Engage your advisors
AI advisors with their own biases offer competing counsel. You decide.
Your decision.
You answer in your own words - open reasoning, not multiple choice. This is what gets read.
The world reacts
Actors respond and the situation moves - stability shifts with your call.
The run is assessed
Play to the end, then the whole game is graded across five dimensions.
A running stability read shifts with every decision - the world pushes back, and the situation can hold or tip. Where it ends up is part of what gets judged.
B The five dimensionsEach scored, then combined
Your strategic reasoning across five dimensions
Every game is assessed the same way, so scores mean the same thing from one scenario to the next. Each dimension is scored on its own, weighted, and combined into a single measure you can be ranked on.
Did you understand the problem before you tried to solve it?
We didn’t invent what good judgment looks like here. This dimension is evaluated on concepts drawn from works serious strategists already know:
- On WarCarl von Clausewitz · 1832The first and most important judgment is to understand what kind of conflict you are actually in, and not to mistake it for another.
- Thinking in TimeRichard Neustadt & Ernest May · 1986Separate what is known from what is unclear and from what is merely presumed.
- Essence of DecisionGraham Allison · 1971The lens you choose to read a crisis through decides what you are able to see in it.

01What is WarPaths, exactly?
A wargaming platform. You take the seat of a decision-maker in a national security crisis, work through it turn by turn in your own words, and get an assessment of the reasoning behind your choices at the end.
02Do I need wargaming experience?
No. There are no rules to learn, no units to move and no dice. You read a situation and write what you would do. Experience in policy, analysis or the military helps you play well - it is not needed to start.
03How is my judgment actually evaluated?
The whole run is assessed across five dimensions - problem framing, decision effectiveness, risk management, strategic cohesiveness and context management - each scored on its own and combined into one measure. It evaluates your reasoning, not just the game outcome.
04What do organizations use it for?
Two things. Research institutions turn a published report into a playable scenario to get their audiences engaged in their work while collecting insights. Educational and training-focused organizations can create custom scenarios to focus on desired problem sets or challenges.
05What is free and what is paid?
Pricing will be announced after the beta.
